Ready or not, the holidays are almost here. I hope this season brings you moments of closeness with friends and family. We’ve all been through a lot lately, and fall, in winter, is a great time to unwind, reconnect with one another and appreciate the blessings of life.

If there is a place in your family for someone else, perhaps Steel Magnolia can fill it. She is six years old and ready to bring her sweet personality to Turkey Day or Christmas celebrations. Opening your home to a used pet this season is one way to spread joy in a meaningful way. Adopted animals provide more than they require. Come to the shelter and see who might be a good fit for you.

Recipes to the Rescue, the PMHS community cookbook, has been released. Recently tasting offered a variety of recipes; All surprising and delicious. Knowing that every employee, volunteer, or community member has served up their absolute favorite recipes, this reference is sure to provide variety and fun for your kitchen adventures. If you would like your own copy – or a gift copy – please stop at the shelter. It’s a bargain at $20, with the proceeds helping the animals here keep warm and cozy this season.

Thinking of special people this season and want to offer something unique and handmade? The 41st Festival of Lights Fair takes place on November 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rockland Elks Club. It’s just a $2 donation at the door. Handmade jewelry, soaps, and more, so you can make thoughtful and beautiful gifts this season.
