The Missouri-based pet food manufacturer plans to expand its operations to central Indiana. Diamond Pet Foods says it will invest more than $200 million to build a 700,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility in Rushville and create more than 170 jobs by 2023. The Rush County Economic Development Corp. says the project is one of the largest private investments in City history.

Diamond Pet Foods manufactures a variety of both owned and private pet food products.

EDC says Rushville was selected after a competitive site selection process. The company cited the city’s business climate and availability of land ready for development as reasons for its decision.

“Given its proximity to suppliers and customers, and access to a quality workforce, this facility will allow us to continue to provide high-quality pet food at competitive prices,” said Mark Schell, Executive Vice President, Diamond Pet Foods, in a press release. Diamond is family owned and we look forward to adding more to our family in a country that is considered ‘America’s Crossroads’.

Schell says the facility will be Diamond Pet Foods’ sixth plant in the United States. Other facilities are located in Missouri, California, South Carolina and Arkansas.

The main investment includes new machinery and equipment. The Export Development Center says the project is still subject to approval of state and local incentives.
