Kids Programs

City Travel – Great Lakes Children’s Museum offers weekly programs for preschool and elementary students.

Kid’s Craft Lab starts at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on November 22. Make a turkey tail fan using scrap paper. Storytime Adventures presents “I am a Turkey” story at 10:30 AM and 1 and 3:30 PM on November 24 and 26. Register at glcm.org.

Play groups come back

GREILICKVILLE – 5toONE and NMCAA Early Head Start presents playgroup gatherings from 10-11:30 a.m. November 24 and December 8 at the Great Lakes Children’s Museum. Parents can bring children 5 years old or younger. Developmental activities and a snack are included. Register at bit.ly/PlayGLCM.

Thanksgiving

TRAVERSE CITY – The Kitchen offers a Thanksgiving feast for pick-up from 9 a.m. to noon on November 25. A meal for six costs $159.95 and includes roast turkey, sausage, sage stuffing, mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, rolls, and pumpkin pie. Individual meals and side dishes are also available.

Michigan author releases novel

Travel Town – Traverse City author Thomas L. Clark recently released his debut novel, “The Preacher’s Obsession” in Michigan. The story takes place in the fictional town of Slippery Flats and follows three Homeland Security agents who try to prevent a preacher from a planned May Day attack. The e-book is $4.99 on Amazon.com.

The library receives a grant

BELLAIRE – The Bellaire Public Library is one of 100 small, rural libraries selected for funding in the third round of the American Library Consortium Libraries Consortium’s Community Transformation Initiative.

The Northern Michigan Facility is intended to use the grant to sponsor Bellaire Reads in May and June 2022. The BPL will purchase books that Bellaire Reads participants can obtain free of charge.

Play for the paws

SUTTONS BAY – Premonitions is hosting a Play for Paws event until December 15th. The trails collect donations for the Cherryland Humane Society. Acceptable items include dry and canned dog and cat food, peanut butter, pet beds, cleaning products, toys and more. Call 231-946-5116.

magazine entries

PETOSKEY – Walloon Writers Review is seeking entries for its seventh edition. The literary magazine accepts short stories, poetry, essays, creative writing as well as nature photography. Submissions are due December 15th at walloonwriters.com.

hair presentations

City Travel – The Traverse District Library is accepting applications for Poets’ Night Out through January 25. Northern Michigan writers can submit up to three pieces.

Entry fee is $10 for individuals and $5 for students and seniors.

The selected poems appear in the PNO Chapbook.

Call for donations

Empire – The Glen Lake Woman’s Club needs donated jewelry to sell at the Glen Lake Woman’s Club Art Fair in July. Proceeds from the sale provide college scholarships to Glen Lake Community School graduating seniors attending Northwestern Michigan College.
