Chow Hound Pet Supplies invites pet parents to bring in additional boxes from out-of-town pet suppliers as part of a new program that benefits local rescue animals while they wait for their forever home.
Throughout January, pet owners are encouraged to bring cardboard boxes from Chewy, Amazon, or other pet delivery companies to their local Chow Hound for free shredding as part of the company’s “Shredding for a Good Cause” campaign. The Grand Rapids-based pet supply company will donate shredding of its competitor’s national fund to the Harbor Humane Society to use as bedding material for pets awaiting adoption.
“To strengthen our local communities, we are highlighting ways to support local rescues, adoptions, and local businesses as well,” said Brannon Dixon, CEO of Chow Hound Pet Supplies. “A Chow Hound can provide the same products as online competitors in half the time – without the abundance of cardboard – from a neighboring company. With us, you can still have all the convenience of online shopping, but also support a local business with pet experts. In store who can help with questions or concerns.”
Cardboard mulch provides healthy, dust-free, non-toxic bedding for pets. The shredding also absorbs odor and provides eco-friendly lining for animals.
According to the Chow Hound, an estimated 850 million tons of cardboard are dumped in the United States annually, the equivalent of approximately 1.4 million trees. Cardboard that ends up in landfills produces methane and carbon dioxide, greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.
“Chow Hound Pet Supplies has been an amazing partner for Harbor Humane over the years, and we are so excited to be part of this campaign together,” said Jane Self Olgor, Executive Director of the Harbor Humane Society. “We firmly believe in the three benefits of upcycling, reducing, and reusing. We applaud the Chow Hound for this effort, and our young animals look forward to taking full advantage of recycled bedding.”
Chow Hound offers local same-day delivery and free store pickup on nearly 8,000 items including pet food, supplies, toys and candy. Customers can also set up AutoOrder for frequent delivery of pet supplies they need on a regular basis.
