We’ve heard about grocery shortages and concerns about our holiday dinners, but for some pet owners now, it’s affecting their animals’ canned food. And not only dog food is affected, but cat food is affected as well.
For most of us, we know about the shortages in packages of ketchup, oat milk, and regular packaged foods. And while the USDA may refer to it as not a technical shortage but a “supply chain disruption,” shoppers looking for these products are considered a shortage. They don’t have that, so you’re short on supplies.
It goes without saying that as ABC 7 in Buffalo points out, pet owners today are also seeing a shortage when it comes to canned food for both cats and dogs. Because of this ‘disruption in the supply chain’, there are price increases when it comes to sourcing what is on the canned food supply.
The lack of canned food causes some pet owners to worry about finding their favorite pets
One of the reasons for the shortage has to do with aluminum can problems. Supply simply does not meet demand and it is a problem that has been increasing for a while, but the epidemic has been exacerbated by the epidemic.
Another issue is sourcing the ingredients that typically go into a number of packaged foods that many pet owners pick up. Whether it’s a canning issue or sourcing ingredients, some cat and dog food brands have to change things up and try new ingredients, new textures and flavors in order to get pet food off the shelves.
As long as you and your pet are willing to be flexible, there are still food options to choose from. But if you have a picky eater, you may have some problems.
